What is AUSSI? “AUSSI” is an acronym for “Australian Union of Senior Swimmers International”. The full name of the organisation is “AUSSI Masters Swimming in Australia Inc” and is also known as “Masters Swimming Australia”. Masters Swimming Australia is the national sports organisation/governing body for Masters Swimming. We are a non-profit organisation for adult swimmers aged 20 and above. Constituted in 1975, there are around 7,000 members located in 7 branches around Australia.
Mission To provide at club, State and national level an environment to encourage all adults, regardless of ability, to swim regularly and compete in order to promote fitness and improve their general well being.
Motto “FITNESS, FRIENDSHIP and FUN”
Programs include: Stroke correction with qualified coaches, swimming education, regular competitions at Club, Branch, national and international levels, Postal Swims, fun events, social activities, newsletters, officials & coaching courses, National Aerobic Trophy, and the Million Metres Awards.
At the National Office: The national office is responsible for the day to day running of the national body. A full time Chief Executive Officer, full time Sport Administrator and part time Technical & Coaching Development Officer are employed.
The national body provides national insurance policies; oversees the organisation of the National Swim and Masters Games Swimming events; produces and distributes quarterly newsletters; develops and approves accredited coaching and technical courses; manages the Million Metre awards and National Aerobic Trophy; publishes National Top 10; awards badges (including Million Metres); develops National policies; sources partnerships, strategic alliances, sponsorship and funding at the national level; co-ordinates communications between Board, National Committees and Branches; maintains the national website; presents awards such as Coach and Official of the Year; holds the national archives; co-ordinates with Swimming Australia, FINA, and ASCTA on relevent matters; and organises the national swim camp.
At Branch Level: Committees to review Branch activities; championship meets; sanctioning of interclub meets; information kits for new members; newsletters; coaching clinics for coaches & swimmers; technical courses for officials.
At Club Level: A safe, managed environment to encourage fitness, fun & friendship; coaching by qualified Masters coaches; social events; interclub swim meets, time trials, aerobic swims; top 10 lists; club badged clothing.
How do I join? You can find out more on the membership page. To join, visit the Branch contacts page and go to your Branch’s website or contact them to find a club that suits your needs. Once you find the right club, you will need to complete the membership form (36 KB) and pay the fee to become a member. Masters swimming clubs can also often be contacted through local pools and sports centres, and some are listed in the yellow pages under ‘swimming clubs’. You are welcome to swim as a guest with a masters club for a month before deciding if you will join.
