Why Swim?
Swimming is one of the most effective forms of exercise for:
1. Improving aerobic fitness
2. Helping to prevent coronary disease
3. Helping to lower blood pressure
4. Relaxing after the tensions of work
5. Those who fear that getting older and experiencing health problems prevents them from participating in more vigorous sports or exercises. When swimming, your body is supported by the water, so there is no excessive stress on joints, as on the knees in running for example.

Recommendations
1. Swim in a squad. This enables you to use all energy systems and swim all strokes which exercises every muscle group in the body
2. Swim three times a week if possible
3. By stopping when you need to and controlling your effort, the activity can be kept at a level where neither stress nor strain is experienced
4. After a break from swimming go back to a much lower level of effort when you restart
5. Have a regular medical checkup, especially your blood pressure.
